   OK, I'm too busy to look it up.  But if sand is mixed   
   with water, the usual rules of buoyancy apply.  You   
   will not sink into water containing sand any deeper   
   than you would sink into the water by itself.   
      
   Of course, if the water level is _below_ the sand   
   level...   
      
   And if you are like I friend I had once, tall, lanky,   
   and big-boned, well, you sink like a rock in water, too.
