   Someone on another newsgroup has made a claim, the gist of which   
   is this (not a direct quote):   
      
       Sometime in the 1990s, the New York Fire Department bought   
       some small, high-speed fireboats. Someone along the line   
       neglected to take Newton's Third Law into account, however,   
       and when the pumps and nozzles were used, the boats wouldn't   
       stay in place. This rendered them useless and they were   
       quietly sold for scrap sometime later.
