   Should that not read "have been washed"...?   
      
   Otherwise: it makes sense, in that "it does matter on a population scale". That   
   is, someone dealing with eggs on a commercial or industrial basis probably   
   needs   
   to show that they are aware of a risk, and are reducing it in the approved   
   manner.   
      
   Beyond that: my fridge is my castle (or something).
