There was an entire cadre of Bell workers called
"nickel snatchers" who went out, swapped out the locked coinbox
for an empty one, and locked the box into his truck.

At the end of his shift, the truck went through the sally port,
where the coinboxes were unlocked and carried into a room with
women wearing pocketless smocks. They worked on a large flat
table with overhead observers. They opened the coinboxes and
   counted the coinage.
