This kinda started with "Reefer       > Madness" and got worse from there.               Actually it started with Hearst's racism ans       sexism if you read the adverta for Reefer Madness.       The idea that Hispanics/Mexicans and Negroes might       be using the cheap drug to relax and recreate was       enough for the Southern Democrats to whom Harry Anslinger       presented his Hemp Tax Act in 1937. That by the way       is the year I was born.                Anslinger was trying to keep his Federal Bureau       of Narcotics functional by creating another drug to       control since the Prohibition of Alcohol had been repealed       but cocaine and heroin were not becoming popular so he       needed a new drug to control. He was immensely successful       in promoting cannabis and it went from a few hundred thousand       users to millions by 25 years later.               Each of those represented a potenial drug user to       control.        bliss              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
