One of my high school teachers told us WWI could have been avoided
if the Archduke Franz Ferdinand wasn't so vain about his personal
appearance. To make certain that his uniform fit properly he
had himself sewn into it each morning. The buttons on it had no
purpose except to look good. After he was shot the doctors lost
precious time while he was bleeding to death because they had to
cut him out of his clothing. Had they been able to remove his
jacket immediately they probably could have saved his life.
