XPost: soc.culture.indian, alt.fan.jai-maharaj, alt.politics       XPost: talk.politics.misc, soc.culture.india       From: alt.fan.jai-maharaj@googlegroups.com              India, August 1947... My grandfather described the       situation then              By Burkha Dutt       October 24, 2018              I see some posts here and there about how India is a poor       country or how unorganized we are. While I agree with them,       I only agree partially. I also see this negativity being       used by communists to try and prevail their ideas of       economy over the country.              To bust these communist agendas, I want to take you all to       a picture painted by my grandfather about the times we, as       indians came from. Juxtapose that picture which he       described (below) to your india today...              Me: What were you doing on August 15th, 1947? How do you       think India has changed since then.              Grandfather: "(pauses a bit) I was travelling in a train       from Rajahmundry to Visakhapatnam. The midnight before that       dawn, it was announced india was independent. I was a       teenager travelling to see my family in visakhapatnam.       Everyone was happy that we achieved independence. In this       part of the country, all laurels were thrown at congress       party(he admires gandhi's personal characteristics). Tuni       is an important town in coastal andhrapradesh. Our train       was going through that town. Just before the train stopped,       on either side of the track, there were about 10000 people       asking for food in the hope that people in the train,       supposedly richer, would throw some food. Remember, the       madras presidency had seen famine for the past 2-3 years by       then. Tears kept rolling down my cheeks. Helplessness.              If you ask me has India changed, I would say, yes.       Definitely yes. Its been slow but there has been progress.       However, I feel people have grown more cunning and are       duping others these days even more."              This was India then, a poor country left without even food       to eat! Its not a question of who is responsible, though we       know the mughals and the british plundered the country. The       real point is that we have pulled many people out of       poverty. In fact the slow pace of progress is a result of       Nehru parivar's lack of vision. A lack of       dictatorship/draconian communism has let the people       progress. No matter what we think of Nehru, he was better       than any communist leader. Same applies to any congress of       the old times. To think that Congress under Sonia G and       Rahul G has joined hands with communists, makes me laugh at       those that call themselves congressmen. I mean wasn't       congress opposed to communism and hence, a democracy       established in India? How can they forget that in their       blind hatred for Hindus and hindu practices?              The motivation for the post was to break the myth prevalent       among some of us that nothing can be done of India. We       progressed despite many corrupt, inefficient political       leaders post independence, we progressed despite the       overpopulation issues, despite the deep scar of partition       and subsequent terrorism from the neighbor. We are getting       off of our debt. Democracy is working for us, just need to       give power to the right people.              I think Mr. Modi is the best leader for India in the       foreseeable future but that's an opinion. The above though,       was/is a fact.              End of forwarded post.              Jai Maharaj, Jyotishi       Om Shanti       http://groups.google.com/group/alt.fan.jai-maharaj              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
