   Subjectively speaking, perhaps the people who lived through the   
   Holodomor in Ukraine or in the Gulags of the USSR, or the Great   
   Depression in the U.S. Dust Bowl or the death camps in Poland or the   
   Killing Fields in Cambodia under Pol Pot would argue that the time they   
   lived in sucked as bad as 535 AD.  That said, 535 AD was a very bad year.
