Normal winter evenings was 10-20 F,       with a moderate breeze blowing off the lake which was just across the       road from the main campus. When it warmed up to about 34-38, many of us       went out without even a jacket and felt comfortable. That was more than       60 years ago. These days, we keep thermostat at 70 24/7 (we have a heat       pump and our HVAC tech says we wouldn't save enough at night to       compensate for the energy used to restore the temp to 70 in the AM).       During the day, we wear heavy underwear, winter-weight shirts, and one       or two long sleeve fleeces over that. I'm comfortable but my better       half would prefer keeping the temp at 74. Summer time we keep AC at 78       to keep the humidity tolerable. I was born and raised in the northeast;       wife in the deep south. Current location: DC metro area. Home: 1800       sq ft corner unit (south and east exposure) condo about 1/3 up in a high       rise bldg. All electric bldg. Hot water supplied as an amenity.       Electric bill for preceding 12 mos. ~ $1400.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
