   it's the latter.  something happens to people that messes them up and   
   *then* they become hard-core republicans...  or their parents stuff it   
   down their throats very young, which still counts as "messing them up,"   
   and usually people can recover from parents' idealogy issues later in   
   life.   
      
   it is my firm belief all people are born with the ability to see others'   
   problems, and to be compassionate, and to understand the need for   
   moderation in all things...  and so, for this to be true, it must be   
   that people turn to right-wing idealogy as a skewed solution to whatever   
   is wrong with them, like turning to drugs or alcohol for others.

   it's already been shown to be false.  in spite of this, i doubt that it   
   will only be the far, far right who keep it alive - i think it will be   
   central to Rove's smear tactics.  through Ari Fleischer and Fox News,   
   Rove will insinuate the rumors deep into the minds of the   
   already-brainwashed republican faithful.   
      
   thankfully, these idiots are the minority.  i can say this with   
   certainty through deduction:   
      
   (a) more people voted for Gore than Bush in 2000,   
      
   (b) even fewer people like Bush now,   
      
   so   
      
   (c) Bush will lose by a wider margin than he did last time, this time   
   sufficient to ensure that no amount of vote tampering will be enough to   
   steal the election with.

   : and his adopted Bangladeshi daughter as panicky right wingers   
   : see Bush is going down.   
      
   this is called "push-polling," and Rove has done it to every political   
   opponent his candidates have ever faced.  they just couldn't dig   
   anything up about Gore, so it didn't work then - but he will most   
   certainly do it here.   
      
   however, as i think Roedy Green pointed out, this electorate, due to the   
   Internet, will be more informed than ever.  this time around, people   
   know more.   
      
   : Bush's lies about almost everything will be an issue, especially his   
   : lies about Iraq and Saddam and al Qaeda.  And his service, his   
   : business deals, whether he knew Ken Lay and other lies that show Bush   
   : cannot tell the truth with a gun to his head and is deeply   
   : incompetent to boot.   
      
   the Bush administration continues to lie about each of these things,   
   with the exception of "whether he knew Ken Lay," which has never been a   
   question - Lay was Bush biggest single financial contributor during the   
   2000 campaign.   
      
   : The far right nastiness will feed the media with a righteous campaign   
   : to deal with the right wing slime by no longer giving Bush a free   
   : ride.   
      
   we can only hope the conservative media will start representing public   
   opinion and facts during this campaign.
