In fact the number of democrats younger than 45       |> with military experience is sorely lacking. Among my age group,       |> we are the last democrats to serve in numbers. As the '70s       |> moved, fewer and fewer democrats served. More so in the '80s.       |> In the '90s the Clinton's cutting the military in half forced       |> most the democrats out (it was just easier to go other places and       |> it was not popular among democrats to serve).       |>       |The is a ration of shit, I dont think you have one peice of data to back       |this up.       |SO PUT UP the DATA OR SHUT UP       |> If we look at congress, there are 60 republicans and 40       |> democrats. What is really depressing is that most of the       |> democrats served in either WW2 or Korea. There are no democrats       |> who have served (who in congress) in the last 10 years.       |>       |> Just a snap shot, California has 54 members of congress. Only       |> four have been in the military, all republicans. It does not       |> make us look that good.       |>       |> The problem is that we democrats have turned are backs on serve.       |> We "say" nice things but for the most part dislike getting our       |> hands dirty.       |You think America is going to believe this horse shit. Just because most       |military people have decided to go in to politics does not mean, that the       |military is mostly made up of republicans.       |       |God help those statistics.. God Bless America              I have over 22 years of experience, being now retired Navy. Just       personal experience tells me that the military, those CURRENTLY       serving, is skewed heavily to conservatives (both democrat and       republican). There was a reason that the Gore campaign did not       want military absentee voters counted in 2000.              There seems to be a bit more democrats in the ranks of the Navy       and AF. Army and Marines are hugely conservative, religious and,       for the most part, republican.              Each year I served it seemed that I have fewer democrats around       me. After Bill Clinton cut the military in half, it seemed like       democrats disappeared. Among the kids I deal with, while most       are not yet "political' (what young person is), they tend to       heavily conservative in their beliefs. Once you hit the five       year mark (most tours are for either 4 or 6 years), the troops       really become conservative. The NCOs (petty officers and       sergeants) and commissioned officers are far more conservative       these days than when I first came on board in the mid '70s.              Likewise, we are not seeing many military folks elected. The       numbers are dropping in congress. Each new class brings less in       as the older members retire. The democrats have no new military       folks joining their ranks in congress. And most of their folks       tend to be WW2 or Korea war types.              What has happened to my party?              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
