   Barack Obama today issued a series of directives and executive orders   
   to extend openness and introduce new ethical codes for what he called   
   the "People's House".   
      
   "For a long time now there's been too much secrecy in this city. The   
   old rules said that if there was a defensible argument for not   
   disclosing something to the American people, then it should not be   
   disclosed," he said. "That era is now over." Obama said.   
      
   "I will also hold myself as president to a new standard of openness,"   
   he said. "Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of   
   this presidency."

   WASHINGTON — President Obama on Wednesday invoked executive privilege   
   to withhold from a Congressional oversight committee some documents   
   and communications among his advisers regarding the failed gun   
   enforcement operation known as “Fast and Furious,” in which weapons   
   purchased in the United States were allowed to cross into Mexico.
