   The pilot episode of a spin off of the popular TV series, 'The X-Files,'   
   called 'The Lone Gunmen.' premiered in March 2001.   
      
   In this episode an airliner is hijacked (via remote control of the   
   plane's autopilot) and the hijackers attempt to crash the plane into the   
   World Trade Center.   
      
   This show was aired 6 months before the actual events of 9/11.   
      
   The episode's plot indicates that the hijacking was committed as an act   
   of greed by an American arms manufacturer, to ultimately increase its   
   weapons sales by invoking US retaliation against a scapegoated,   
   anti-American, extremist dictator.
