   Lately we have had relatively mild (above freezing) temperatures   
   here on the Avalon peninsula of Newfoundland compared to much   
   of the rest of North America.  Today was a glorious sunny   
   day with a high temperature of 11 C (52 F) though it will   
   be more like 2 C (36 F) tonight.  After sunset I saw the   
   waxing crescent for the first time this lunar month.
