   Yep, that seems to be it.  The question then becomes: Why?   
      
   There's nothing in any logical sense, nor anything in any documentation   
   that implies or states that these characters should act as delimiters (as   
   you quite accurately put it, as being equivalent to white space).   
      
   I remember finding this out a long, long time ago, about the comma - that   
   commas did strange things in batch file parameters.  I guess ; is the same   
   thing.  Again, I have to ask: Why?
