   Huge thanks for taking the trouble to confirm it,  JJ.   
   Have  you  an  idea why CHCP may not work?  What is it   
   supposed to do? Shall console programs query  the  ef-   
   fective  encoding  (as  set  by CHCP) and recode their   
   output themselves?
