   Once the knob is set to the preferred setting the sound is fine. HOWEVER, do   
   not adjust the knob while recording, or a loud crackling will be inducted into   
   the track. I tried to adjust the balance between Shotgun & Stereo under   
   several different    
   recording levels and any time I slightly turned the knob crackling was   
   recorded. I had to create several independent test tracks at different   
   settings prior to recording the keeper track. This may not be an issue for   
   some unless you are trying to vary    
   between focusing on a specific sound source (speaker) then adjusting to   
   capture ambient while recording.
