Thanks for the script.  I've never seen any of this substitution stuff.   
      
   I did have problems with spaces in names.  I had to add some "s.  I also   
   couldn't get this construct running:   
      
   if exist %x% set d=#%d% & goto :loop   
      
   and replaced it with a few steps   
      
   :loop   
   if not exist %x% goto saveit   
   :: mangle name here   
   goto loop   
   :save it   
      
   maybe a typo on my part.  Thanks again.
