   Vbscript was installed by default in Win98. It was a very early   
   version, but still a bazillion times more powerful than batch. You can   
   also upgrade it. If you have the SE version of Win98, you can upgrade   
   to the latest version of Vbscript (5.6).   
      
   Vbscript won't work in pure DOS, though. For that, I'd take look at an   
   old version of Kixtart:
