   I've been reading this thread for a while. Why don't you just copy what   
   you wanna keep somewhere and just format the darn floppy? It has been   
   suggested before. It's just a floppy, surely you can afford to move   
   what's important somewhere else, format and copy back? If you REALLY   
   want to erase the file but not format, just use a disk editor, zap the   
   entry from the list of files, then do a checkdisk so that the FAT table   
   is updated.
