   In what sense?  There no alternative to Usenet,  ex-   
   cept  mailing  lists.   The  other mediums for turn-   
   based communication are owned by  huge  corporations   
   and  require  a  browser  with the latest updates or   
   proprietary client software (again, with the  latest   
   updates).   In  either  way  they tend to be clumsy,   
   bloated, and look like crazy cartoon.
