There is no doubt that people of African descent had a hand in building
America, in the form of both slaves and employees working in
agriculture, railroad construction and such things. But there was
precious little invention or creativity in those efforts that I can
see. They worked for white people that figured out what work had to
be done and how to do it and then supplied basic grunt labour. There
may be the odd exception to that in the form of the occasional black
engineer but I think the general trend was very much as I've said.

I'm going to need some convincing to believe that blacks were a
significant part of the labour force in building Europe.
