   A rising activist in Britain's Jewish community was stabbed   
   to death yesterday in Washington in an apparent robbery and   
   rape attempt.   
   Alan Senitt, a former chairman of the British Union of   
   Jewish Students, was walking his girlfriend home through the   
   Georgetown neighbourhood, one of Washington's more   
   well-to-do districts, at about 2am Sunday morning when the   
   couple were stopped by four people demanding cash and   
   valuables, police said. Mr Senitt was stabbed in the

   Three hours later, two adult males were arrested for the   
   attack, police said. A woman and a 15-year-old male turned   
   themselves in early Sunday afternoon.   
      
   Christopher Piper, 25, and Jeffrey Rice, 22, have been   
   charged with murder, as have Olivia Miles, 26, and the   
   15-year-old who can not be named for legal reasons. Mr Piper   
   was also charged with attempted sexual assault of Senitt's   
   companion. All four are due to appear in court today.   
      
   Mr Senitt had recently moved to Washington, leaving his job   
   as the director of the Coexistence Trust, a charity which   
   aims to bring Muslims and Jews together to fight   
   Islamophobia and anti-semitism.   
      
   During May's local council elections, he stood for a seat in   
   north London, and he had earlier served stints at the   
   All-Party British-Israel parliamentary group, according to   
   the website somethingjewish.co.uk.   
      
   Lord Janner, who had worked with Mr Senitt on the   
   Coexistence Trust, told the Press Association: "He was a   
   delight to work with and this is a terrible tragedy".

   WASHINGTON - Three assailants who cut the throat of an   
   aspiring politician from Britain killed him and tried to   
   rape his female companion early Sunday in the driveway of a   
   Georgetown mansion, police reported, after the couple had   
   returned from a night at the movies.   
      
   The victim, Alan Senitt, 27, a Jewish activist and volunteer   
   for former Virginia Gov. Mark R. Warner's potential   
   presidential campaign, died at the scene, police said. The   
   woman, whom police declined to identify, was not injured.   
      
   Within hours, District of Columbia police arrested four   
   people in connection with one of the most brutal crimes in   
   years on the affluent streets of Georgetown and said they   
   were looking for possible links to other recent attacks in   
   the city.   
      
   Christopher Piper, 25, of Washington was charged with felony   
   murder and attempted sexual assault. The others - Jeffery   
   Rice, 22; Olivia Miles, 26; and a 15-year-old boy police   
   declined to identify because he has been charged as a   
   juvenile, all of Washington - face murder charges.   
      
   The attack occurred shortly after 2 a.m. as Senitt was   
   seeing the woman home, police and others said.   
      
   The two were rummaging in the trunk of a car in the driveway   
   when they were approached by three men wielding a gun and a   
   knife, police said. Police said Piper, who had the gun,   
   grabbed the woman and began dragging her down the driveway.   
   Out of view of his companions, he tried to pull off her   
   clothes, police said. The attacker made a comment "in   
   reference to his intent to commit a sexual assault," said   
   Lt. Robert Glover of the Police Department's violent crimes   
   branch, which is handling the investigation.   
      
   Meanwhile, two other assailants grabbed Senitt, stabbed him   
   and slashed his throat.   
      
   As Senitt lay dying, the three men fled with the woman's   
   purse, police said."
