From: mitchelldickson@bellsouth.net              LOL! I wished I was Kate.              You see I know exactly how Earl looked and sounded when he stuck that old       Martin neck in the air and played Jimmy Brown on the Martha White show. I       grew up with the old bluegrassers. But think of what is happening now.              First off, Most banjo players for instance are learning from Crowe. Nothing       wrong with that but that amounts to copying an copy! Crowe is a Scruggs       copy. He makes no bones about where he learned the banjo. Although a very       good one, still he is less than Earl was at his best. Some young players       now are learning from copies of Crowe. That makes them a copy of a copy of       a copy. And so it goes Kate. A cursery listen to Sirius Bluegrass will       soon register to the trained ear that a new form of "festival time" has been       reached. Way too perfect and controlled time fed by super clean technicians       without a shread of emotion in their music, nor have they the ability to       transfer it! All sound alike. Generic trash :)              It truely is fading Kate.              C YA       Mitch                     "kateh" |
