After reading the other posts, not sure I really want to weigh in on       this with a serious reply.              Only distinction I've ever heard of (and again there's no such thing as any       offical difference) has to do with the setup and style. A "fiddle" player       might prefer a flatter bridge setup to enable playing double stops or       triple stops which are more common in "fiddle" music than "violin" music.              B                     "RichD" |
