XPost: nf.arts, nf.general, rec.music.folk       XPost: rec.music.bluenote.blues       From: dalton@nfld.com              This Wednesday, Feb. 4, 9--11:30 p.m., at Folk Night at       The Ship Pub in St. John's, Newfoundland, the headliner       is bluesman Darrell Cooper. Cover is $5, there are door       prizes, there is an open mic set between the two headline       sets, and open mic performers get a free beer. Also the       kitchen is open until 8 p.m.              Here is Darrell Cooper's bio from nlfolk.com :              "Darrell Cooper first hit the St. John's Blues Scene in 1992, he was 18       years old. His contemporary electric guitar playing quickly gained       recognition and respect amongst the local veterans who didn't hesitate       to support him in any way they could. During the following five years,       Cooper had been hired to be band leader for imported acts performing St.       John's Including the iconic Prime Minister of the Blues Dutch Mason and       was also a finalist in the Toronto Maple Blues Society "New Talent       Search".              Since then, Cooper released a debut Cd "Foundation" that garnered Music       NL Jazz/Blues Artist of the Year, was invited to represent NL at the NAC       Festival in Ottawa and continued to tear up blues clubs around the world       including Chicago, Dallas, Madrid, and Austin.              In 2005, Cooper stepped down from performing full time and took the       position of Stage Manager and Audio Tech for Sam Roberts Band and       Metric. After five years of touring the world and restoring his       inspiration to perform again, Cooper stepped off the tour bus and       returned home to Newfoundland playing with more verve and ferocity than       ever before.              Since retiring from the road, DC has been honing his delivery and       renditions of acoustic blues classics, as well as writing new material       for a forthcoming electric CD."                     Since it is Folk Night I think he will stick to acoustic blues.              Next week, Feb. 11, there will be an unamplified round table       old-time country and bluegrass jam session hosted by Dave Rowe.              --       David Dalton dalton@nfld.com http://www.nfld.com/~dalton (home page)       http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/dtales.html Salmon on the Thorns (mystic page)       "And now the angry morning/Gives the early signs of warning (S.
