XPost: rec.music.bluenote.blues, rec.music.folk, rec.music.country.western       From: dalton@nfld.com              Last night I caught George Thorogood and he cooked       and I tried to (mojo?) bless him a bit and funnel crowd energy to       him and the band. He played not as long as Jann Arden       but longer than what I heard Nickelback played. But       when he should have played a second, maybe slow       encore that the crowd was pumped for, they put the       Canadian anthem on the speakers and they sort of       bowed and faded away. But he did do a first encore       set of two or three songs. He played the Molson       Canadian Theatre subset of the stadium, so capacity       maybe 3000 and it was sparsely filled for the opening act       Darrell Cooper and The Strong Persuaders but for George       I think close to 90% full. So maybe next time he will       come back and play the entire 8300 seat stadium for       a slightly lower cover charge and make twice the money.              Then I went to Erin's, The Grapevine, The Gypsy Tea Room,       The Rose and Thistle, Greensleeves, O'Reilly's and Bar None. :-)       Blair Harvey at The Rose and Thistle really cooked on       original folk blues and some Hank and Hank-influenced country.       Blair has one original folk blues song about a river that is       incredible. A 24 year old harmonica player named Mark       sat in with him on some songs and he has the potential       to become one of the best in the world. Both were really       into it. None of the bars had cover (well O'Reilly's       did earlier but I got there late). Anyway Blair has improved       a lot since I heard him busking a few years ago.              David       http://www.nffld.com/~dalton              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
