|    Our Copyright Act    |
|    28 Nov 04 07:10:49    |
From: rob.mcintyreNOSPAMPLEASE@sympatico.ca              Our copyright act is currently being updated and i'd like to know what you       think should stay or go.              I personally think the private copying ammendment should stay. We should be       able to make copies of music we've purchased but I do think there should be       limitations on how music is distributed to third parties by the consumer.              The authors and owners of these recordings should be compensated but people       should be able to distribute music online, provided that it's of low       quality, time limited and copy controled. The later would enable people to       expose their friends and family to new music/artists and would be beneficial       for the industry.              The problem here is that the real consumer is being sandwitched by ignorant       pirates on one side and an industry under American influence on the other -       Both of which are selfish and don't want to budge in their limited opinions,       resulting in the levying of all Canadians who buy certain blank audio       cassettes, cdroms, mp3 players, etc, whether these are used for music or       not.              I'm sick of hearing pirates trying to justify their theft with weak       arguements about concert and merchandise revenues. I'm also sick of hearing       the music industry complain that all of their sale losses are caused by       piracy and not by their lack of investment in new acts and reduction of       their catalogs.              Both of these parties have one thing in common. They both believe someone       else should be paying for it. And that someone else is usually the real       consumer ; Those who pay for CDs, DVDs, legal downloads, concert tickets,       blank cd-r/cd-rw and cassettes.              I personally think the -real- consumer should have more say in this process.       What d'you guys think ?              --       -----------------------------------------------------------       Rob McIntyre (Ottawa,Canada) / do you want to BUYMUSIC.CA ?       -----------------------------------------------------------              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
