From: zwicky2@comcast.net              for 25 years or so, i have enjoyed a song by jesse winchester called       "pourqoi m'aimes-tu pas?", but never knew what it meant.       after the past few years of trying to teach myself french, i broke out       the lyrics the other day and translated the whole thing, with one       exception in the first stanza.              the song is told from jesse's point of view, and he's bragging about       all the finery he has, and wonders why he still can't win the girl:              regarde mon nouveau chapeau,       et mon poil de chameau,       mes bottes noir a talons hauts.       mes boutons de manchette,       ils jouent "l'alouette".       pese ce choses-la au verso.              i can't figure out the last line. does it mean "these things weigh       heavy on my back"?              merci d'avance,              -eric              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
