Asya and Ron have already advised for you to seek out an experienced
podiatrist. To which I would agree.

FWIW.... A couple of years back I could barely walk on my right foot. The
ball of that foot felt like I was walking on a rock 24/7.
A callous had formed and I assumed it was from too much dancing and running.
I thought the "rock sensation" was from the callous.
Well, after living in pain for months I decided to seek out a podiatrist.
After X-rays, It turned out the "fat pad" on that foot had been damaged and
there was no protection for those bones and the callous was a result of the
bones trying to push through the skin.
There's a surgical procedure to repair the fat pad but my doctor advised
against it for me. He designed a pair of simple orthodics that I can put in
almost any shoe that basically has a quarter sized "hole" below that spot on
   my ball.
They've worked fantastic for me. The callous has completely went away and I
can dance all I want and even walk barefoot pain free.
   Good luck.
