Around Christmastime, The Vince Guaraldi Trio jazzy versions of Christmas
songs, like from Charlie Brown Christmas, get played a lot, with lots of
upright viol style fretless acoustic bass solos...and I've noticed that that
off-pitch effect comes at the Attack portion of the envelope, and is quickly
compensated for, by ear of course, so it produces a sort of style - kind of
a slightly off key intonation followed by getting on pitch immediately,
which is probably why it's not so much considered a problem as it is a style
and even an identifying characteristic of the instrument.

Yeah, the commercial using the three bears story as a background. It's
   a pretty funny commercial.

I'm that way about the weather too...and I'm sure you are as well ;)

Maybe some kind of case or container to protect them.
