She puts gas in it when it gets down to about       > half a tank, about every 6 weeks :-)              I was kind of thinking of that when I considered the analogy ;)              > My van, otoh ,,,, sucks fuel. Fine, I knew it would when we bought it.       > For those extra operating costs, it has benefits ... like it will carry       > all our band gear. Her little 5 speed would never do that.              Yeah, so you should probably measure the *real*, *practical* True fuel       economy mileage, like the railroads do it, not with simple mpg, but with       Ton-Miles per gallon!       I've heard that on average, freight trains get something like 426 Ton-Miles       per gallon, and a couple of large locommotives, are often used as the       "power" for a 15,000 ton train, but the locomotives alone, can only go about       a mile on an entire gallon of diesel fuel...BUT...the inverse of that is       that for that same gallon of diesel fuel, an entire ton, 2000 lbs, can go       426miles!!!       Kind of incredible for fuel efficiency!!!              So you should take the weight of your van Plus what it's carrying and       compute a Ton-Mile/G value.              > I see the parable in much simpler terms. If you agree to do some work for       > a wage, then that's the deal.              Yes, such is the nature of contracts.              > What someone else is paid for some other amount of work, is not your       > business.              But it ended up being such because payment was not done in private...but       then, that's not the lesson in the parable.              The parable is Not about Filthy Lucre as a 'replacement' for God, the very       basis for the Satanic *idea* known as 'money'.              > It's a admonition against envy. As it the King James ends it,              Certainly it's also a lesson providing an example of why envy is the Wrong       choice...if it was about envy. Rather, I see it in terms of using the proper       Parameters in regards to what is to be called Justice.              Certainly, if your band one way or another learned that another band that       also played the same venue as you played, was getting paid much more for       doing less, perhaps with even less ability, I'm sure you wouldn't be very       happy about it and even if there was no envy, it would certainly appear to       be a case of gross Injustice - and you'd probably end up demanding at least       as much pay as the other band was getting as soon as the situation presented       itself, at least agreement wise.              But this is Not what Jesus's parable is about - it's about something far       more profound!              > 8 So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward,       > Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto       > the first.              > 9 And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they       > received every man a penny.              > 10 But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received       > more; and they likewise received every man a penny.              > 11And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the       > house,              > 12 Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them       > equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.              > 13 But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong:       > didst not thou agree with me for a penny?              > 14 Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as       > unto thee.              > 15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye       > evil, because I am good?              > 16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but       > few chosen.              Verse 16 makes it abundantly clear that this parable is Not about being paid       but rather about giving.              > Not much, I'd guess.              I'm guessing the standard of living in Mexico is far from ideal.              > No, not everyone is. Unless you view it as a party, in fact a party where       > no one is paying the band.              I've noticed so much these days that particularly those who are the "haves",       tend to expect the "have-nots" to do everything for them for nothing - more       Proof that so-called 'money' doesn't work, JUSTLY, that is, and it's time       for a Gift Economy!              > If someone is footing the bill, then bringing along more people than you       > need not only cheats the people hiring you, it cheats the players in the       > band, as they have their wages diluted by people who aren't needed.              Yep, and it's Exactly the same outside of bands - Overpopulation, i.e.       excess people, who aren't needed, Destroys in ANY situation!!!              > Jam ..... or job. You an I view the world differently.              Both! Jamming should Never preclude thoroughly knowing the material by       Diligent Practicing and Rehearsing!!!              In other words, Jamming the RIGHT WAY!!!              > They are paying by the job now. We had a meeting with a representitive       > this morning, sealed the deal.              Well then it's set.              > In this case, we are cheaper than their old band.              I didn't know that. I thought your band would get paid the same as the old       band.              > And yet, per person we're making considerably more. Simple reason, quality       > costs.              And more musicians don't automatically multiply the quality.              > We're less people, but far better players / singers, so that's the deal.       > That we can do what they did with less is because we're better performers       > AND we've spent the money to buy, and time to learn to use, better gear.              That cetainly helps...and provides incentive to keep hiring you, to the       employer too...a great situation!              > We got what we ask for. I'm good with that. It's as much per person as our       > old band gets on the best paying jobs we had, because, on the old band we       > almost always ended up splitting the money four ways. Now we're a solid       > trio.              My latest band is currently also a trio - I hope things will be       similar...but there's GOT to be Originals!!!              > I think we will. It's a lot of work, really. But hey, that's what we want       > to be doing.              Yep, same here, Labor of Love!              > There are some overlaps with already booked jobs that will need to be       > dealt with. In most cases we can do one in the afternoon and another in       > the evening. On a few, we'll reschedule or just cancel the overlap.              If it's a 'no-brainer', might as well cancel the (lesser paying?) overlap.              > It's a lot of pressure off me. You can lead a horse to water. ..... but       > you can't make a loud drummer let up.              Not having to deal with more of that nonsense is definitely moving in the       right direction.              > Then speak up and get some better songs on the list.              I plan to. Because if not, I'll do the gigs but I won't be happy until the       Originals get out there!              > Yes. Not a surprise. You do know I've played fiddle since I was about 10              [continued in next message]              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
