So we aren't up on       > the latest.              So far the 'gossip' has been that you're not loud enough - so how much could       it be trusted?              > Even if we are being brought in in an effort to turn things around, that       > is doable, sometimes.              IF that WAS the case, perhaps they've figured that your band would be the       best choice to turn things around, and they'd be right!              > One of the retirement places I do regularly was in financial trouble a few       > years back. Very possible, but again,       > I don't care.              A practical reason to insist on cash Only!              One place we played said they were going to start paying us with checks - I       was going to tell the person that our tax attorney won't bother with any       checks under $1,000 ;) but by that time the decision was already made not to       play there anymore. Besides, since I don't deal with Banksters, I don't       accept checks.              > I didn't keep very detailed records because I was pretty sure some gigs       > went unpaid.              I've been in similar situations - if they don't pay in cash, they don't pay.              > If I actually knew, maybe I'd have been upset. Instead, I showed up,       > played the jobs and forgot about it.              That sounds familiar...because if they pay with a check, it's an       inconvenience, so they might as well just get a show for free, and I'll let       then know it too, and also let them know that if another venue will pay       cash, they'll get first consideration.              > Then, at some point way down the road, there'd be a check in the mail. I       > was happy when it came, never thought about it otherwise.              If that happened to me, I'd probably put the check up somewhere and forget       about it again ;)              > Long term tho, that attitude paid off. They are much better about paying       > me now, hint that I could charge more sometimes. I won't. It doesn't       > matter. I get enough there.
