I'm very careful, but I still get down and jam, and the last       thing I should have to worry about is whether the equipment is up to it.              > I still have horrid memories of a guy who normally played real old wooden       > piano just punding the living hell out of one of my keyboards once.              I've never done any such thing, particularly since my first piano, an       electric piano, which is still have, is a model 140 Wurlitzer. Hitting the       keys any harder than absolutely necessary and within safe limits practically       guarantees a broken reed - if not almost immediately, then soon enough       thereafter, which is no fun to replace, and I've replaced more of them than       I'd cared to ;)              > It wasn't loud enough for him apparently, so he just dug in and nearly       > destroyed the thing by playing hard.              What an Idiot!              > It was litteraly bent, bowed down in the middle afterwards. And, about       > half a dozen of the keys, plastic, now sat at various different heights       > thanks to being bent and damaged. Learned a valuable lesson there. Much       > like I knew from childhood about not letting every Dick and Harry play my       > guitar.              And all that accomplished was destroying instruments, not playing any       better!              > thinking of that, years ago when I was in a traveling band, we'd often       > have to do " jam sessions " as an early show on saturdays. I bought and       > carried a second guitar for those. Something crappy with really heavy       > strings set high. Odd, people didn't want to set in and play that nearly       > as much as when I took one of my good guitars.              Good idea - for guitars, but with keyboards, it's not that easy.              > they absolutely can be used for that, or so the docs say.              I figured as much, or whenever I see 9 fader type controllers, I think of       virtual B3 and hope ;)              > You're saying the same thing as another of my keyboard friends. He cares       > more about how it feels / plays, than its DAW functionality.              DAW functionality is a matter of merely electronic capability, but actual       playing characteristics are a lot more than that.              My only interest for using s controller with a computer would be to use the       computer as a sound module of sorts, such as with something like Native       Instruments or the like.              > I'm the other way around. This is replacing several midi controllers.       > You know, foot switches and korg things.              But since you'll now have those functions on the keyboard, you won't have       the ability to use foot switches while continuing to keep playing the       keyboard.              > I just don't want to have to carry all those pieces and connect them up       > every gig. To get that, I'll suffer with a keybed better than what I have       > now but not perfect :-)              But foot switches are nice to have.              > Yes, I ordered the T6. It'll be fine. The P series is a little " nice "       > a little overkill for me out live. It's more of a studio piece.              If you're going to use it for gigs and it's up to it, then it'll be worth       it.              > I could have. Then again, the issues I have with our sound wouldn't be       > solved with the extra busses on the X32. Band girl still wouldn't use in       > ears :-) So instead of having her unwilling to use those with the XR18,       > I could have spent another $500 and have her still not using them with an       > X32.              Well, if that's the only practical difference for you, of course stay with       the XR18.              > It'll last. I just don't play on using it past that. Kinda like cars,       > gotta replace them now and then.              Yeah, but after decades, not just a few years.              > One thing band girl taught me is to not wait until something breaks to       > replace. In her business, they had to have things work. So when something       > started to act up or just get some age, they replaced it before it failed       > and created a major problem.              Or fix it rather than practicing 'deferred maintenance', better known as       Neglect.              > I had a Keystation 88es once. Wore it out. Actually it's the keyboard I       > talked about earlier that that cowboy tried to destroy for me.              Apparently, destroying one of those is easy, just play it at gigs, because       if my M-Audio Keystation 61es has a key sticking up and has NEVER been       played for a gig, I can imagine what playing out would do!              > Looked at some StudioLogic stuff yesterday. It's all nice gear. But I had       > to pick something, so I did :-)              Studiologic's old name was Fatar and as far as I know, they were the first       to come out with weighted 88 key controllers, which I'd always wanted ever       since seeing one - so I'm quite happy to have the SL-990 Pro, which I got       very well used from Guitar Center. It was heavily used and abused by a Music       school - still worked for a long time but several years ago, I had all the       key contacts replaced so now it's like a new keyboard.              > Band gig last night, got home in the early AM, have another show this       > afternoon. About an hour then I have to be out of here and on the way.              Have fun!              > I recorded last night, gave that a quick listen. Something odd going on.       > The mix sounds like my montor mix, not the FOH mix. That's setable in the       > XR18, and maybe it's wrong. I might have the outputs that are feeding the       > recorder set to the wrong signal path. Need to check that when we set up       > today. Just making the recordings to get a feel for what we're sending to       > the FOH, not to keep and listen too.              That would be interesting to hear, since you normally hear so much more of       the monitor mix anyway.              > We're taking the lights today..... gotta get those loaded up.              Now for me, that, not foot switches, would be hauling excess weight ;)              > Trio gig, those are fun. Man, did it rain yesterday. Not doing that right       > now, which is good, parking lot was a muddy watery mess last night.              > you have a good day ....                     JimD              I can't stand this Rotten weather, cold, wet, if not snow, but the sun was       out today - I'm sick and tired of waiting for that.       I want warm, dry, and sunny ALL THE TIME, not rarely if at all!!!              And daylight STUPID time only rubbed those insults in all the more!              I want the day to start Sooner, not end Later, at the Expense of it starting       Sooner!!!              Ouisie              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
