|    Global Piano Sensation And Visionary Art    |
|    23 Nov 16 10:32:35    |
A decade after the ethereal tunes from Fiona Joy's breakthrough recordings       Portrait of a Waterfall and Angel Above My Piano made her a staple on Sky FM       internet radio's solo piano channel, the New South Wales-based recording       artist and visionary artist        caps an incredible breakthrough year with two nominations by the Independent       Music Awards.              The global music sensation is up for Best New Age Album for her popular 2016       release Signature - Synchronicity, and for Best New Age Song for one of its       tracks "Calling Earth." (See the video at https://youtu.be/oP81wRBotTg)              The Independent Music Gala @ Lincoln Center will be held on Saturday, November       12, 2016 in New York City at the prestigious Lincoln Center for the Performing       Arts. The day-long music event for fans and industry will stream live       performances from IMA        artists. The winners of The 15th IMAs will be announced from the stage.              Signature - Synchronicity was co-produced by new age legend and Windham Hill       Records founder Will Ackerman (who also lends his trademark acoustic guitar),       Tom Eaton and James Englund. Fiona Joy is currently with Ackerman's Imaginary       Road team in Vermont        working on an upcoming project, and exploring New York concert opportunities       for 2017.              Earlier this year, Fiona Joy completed her second highly successful "Piano       Angel" tour of China, contributed to the newly released peace album Action       Moves People United, and recorded a new Hi-Res album with Blue Coast Records.       Last week, she recorded        two concerts for the highly-acclaimed PRI radio show "ECHOES" with John       Diliberto, which will air in the coming weeks and months. "ECHOES" is a daily       two-hour radio program featuring a soundscape of ambient, space, electronic       and new age music.              Fiona Joy has also submitted Signature - Synchronicity to the 59th Grammy       Awards for New Age album consideration. Listen at https://soundc       oud.com/user-260052746/sets/signature-synchronicity              Signature - Synchronicity is actually "part two" of her critically-acclaimed       Signature Collection, which began as a true-story concept, and grew into a       musical exploration spanning the audiophile, new age, piano and contemporary       instrumental markets. The        first album in the series is Signature - Solo (Tiny Island Music), including       ten songs recorded by Cookie Marenco for an audiophile experience; it became       the first solo piano album to reach #1 on the ZMR International Airplay charts       since the legendary        pianist George Winston.              Fiona Joy says the series began as a very personal exploration of how the       deteriorating "signature" bone in her left hand (caused by a degenerative bone       disease) could affect her life and music. "Everything I write is conceptually       derived. Signature was        always about my left hand," she explains, "and the word 慡ynchronicity' means       the coming together of inner and outer events - signifying the collaborative       spirit and magic involved in working as a team, which is what we're sharing on       the new album."              "I wanted to do a solo version of the songs in a single take, as a live       recording, and then show the magic of what you can do in the studio with the       same songs," the pianist adds. "Same music, two different worlds. I think it's       interesting for the        audience to hear what difference you can make to a song. Take the song       慓race,' for example. It has been recorded as a solo, an acoustic vocal, on       flute, as chill, and as an Indian/South African version for a GRAMMY-winning       album in 2015. Note for note,        it's the same song, but a totally different experience in each recording! That       fascinates me."              Independent Music Awards (IMA) producer MRG (Music Resource Group) accepts       hundreds of submission, choosing only five to compete in the final New Age       category. Coincidentally, Lawrence Blatt - one of Fiona Joy's competitors in       the New Age category - is        also her band mate in the new group, FLOW. Another FLOW member, horn player       Jeff Oster, is nominated in the Best Live Performance Category. FLOW (drawn       from the artists' initials) will be releasing their first album together in       late 2017.              The IMA winners will be selected by blue-ribbon panels of top recording       artists that include: Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan, Slayer, The Kills, Lalah       Hathaway, Meshell Ndegeocello, Sepultura, Dido, Warren Haynes (Government       Mule), Suzanne Vega, Gus        Unger-Hamilton (alt-J), Shelby Lynne; previous IMA winners including Amy Lee       (Evanescence), The Show Ponies, Noshir Mody, Rozina Pátkai and Ingrid Gerdes,       among many others; and influential press and talent buyers from the Americas,       Europe and Pacific        Rim.              Fiona Joy and Lawrence Blatt will attend the IMA awards ceremony Independent       Music Party on November 12th at Lincoln Center in NYC.              Signature - Synchronicity is available at iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, and all       digital platforms.
