A place I can "       > think thru " ideas, or somewhere to just let go of the pressures of       > gigging.              Now if only we can have roads like that ;)              > Maybe you could make your own. Get a calendar and each month find and       > paste up a pic from some nice keyboard.              Things like that only make me depressed not to have that equipment...I'm       tired of wishing - I want to play it!              > Yes. Absolutely.              > I've sort of made a resolution to myself on something related to this.       > Was reading some quotes today, things I've collected over the years, and       > came across one about never passing up an opportunity to keep your mouth       > shut. To me this applies to time I waste trying to explain what it is I       > do to people. There was also a quote to the point that if you're having       > to explain, justify something, you're losing.              I've pretty much given up on that, for my health's sake if nothing else ;)              > So I'm gonna quit talking to people at gigs about midi, or computers, or       > how my tracks get done. They either won't believe me ( think it's       > karaokie ) or just not understand at all what's going on. I can save       > myself a lot of grief by just not talking about it. Talk about the       > weather, sports, anything but HOW we do what we do. They don't really care       > anyway              A lot of that stuff, I don't even use, so I'd be more interested in actually       experiencing it in action...except for the tracks, which I've       experienced...and when I play along with a complete set of tracks, better       known as a studio recording ;) for practice, I refer to that as "karaoke       keyboard" ;)       Besides, I'm always arranging keys into anything that doesn't have it...like       the Hollies' "Bus Stop" ;)              > are drummers musicians ?              Yes, definitely, but they literally play a very unique part of it - entirely       rhythm with minimal tonality. I'm always telling my Soulmate about that, and       how it puts all the tonality generating pressure on me - since he's a       drummer ;)              > Old gear is fine. If it's working, play it.              Just so long as it keeps working.              > Exactly.              Some like to pay a LOT extra for a difference they can see, even if they       can't hear the difference...like the Gibson name on the headstock of what       could very well be an Epiphone...or Fender deliberately trying to force       those who really dig the Fender name, to pay more or else they get something       that says Squier on it...and it's always been like that with speakers -       until they're inside cabinets and the big, fancy, Expensive names can no       longer be seen.              > Many people believe that others think and feel just as thye do.              Even if they don't think at all...Bummer.              > I don't have that issue myself. Because, my thoughts are so scattered that       > if others thought like I do, very little would ever get done in the world.              If those things that wouldn't get done are Evil, then so much the better!              > I'm looking to move past midi, again. It's a process, not something that       > you can just do. I have thousands of songs in midi format, and redoing all       > those would take several lifetimes. I don't have that.              Perhaps there may be some conversion software for changing midi files.              > Still, I want to do this. At least, for some of my tracks. It'll never       > be done completely, but I can move in that direction. I guess what I want       > rid of really is the midi guitar rig. It's old tech, heavy, and really       > just pretty crappy. Looking at Melodyne as a new way to make midi       > instrument tracks from a a normal guitar.              If it works, and progress in switching over continues, amazingly, over not       all that long a time, a lot can be done.              As for tracks, even click tracks are an ordeal. At yesterday's church       service, we actually used metronome clicks, or tried to use them - what a       joke, the entire band ignored them, starting with the singers...although I       wouldn't be happy doing it, I could play with them, but there's just       something so regimented, limiting, and Freedom-quashing about it...like the       nonliving Controlling the living, and just about all of us in the band have       an innate loathing of the feeling of being Forced to Conform!       So even before the first verse was over, the band started playing louder       than the track and the track was turned off seconds after that ;)              > I've found that the heavier something I have to carry around is ...... the       > less I enjoy lugging it :-)              I don't enjoy lugging anything, but if the sound, and the Vibe is the       result, than it's more than worth it!       But I still like the of roadies ;)              > Plan for tomorrow is to redo the 6 space into something smaller. Dentist       > in the morning. I have a tooth that " twinges " sometimes when I eat       > something sweet. No visible cavity, but there is a filling in the tooth,       > so maybe it's leaking. Or maybe something that's no big deal.              I'd rather work out space allocation for gear than go to the dentist ;)              > Putting them in the units would open the regulatory nightmare, and       > associated certification costs. Having them external isn't a weight       > thing anymore. Issue is the very small gauge flimsy wires they use, and       > having to route it around. Just not a very good solution.              Another reason for pedal boards and similar setups for other gear, so those       thin wires don't get moved around.              > In some future ideal world, maybe :-)              Now there's a potential good use for computers - a universal power supply       with totally variable parameters and computerized presets for them.              > Sampling and synthesis are the future. Just that simple.              For electronic instruments, usually keyboards, of course, and it's been that       way for some time now.              > Arrgh ... found out last night they broke another app I use.              Broke an app? How?              > Have you ever been to those little towns in the midwest ? Not a lot of       > options for electronics. Best you travel with reliable gear.              That's true of anything, and why it's so Critical to Verify that gear is       working Before loading it.              Ouisie              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
