It's       > not the fantasy some make it out to be. It's really just that simple.              The answer seemed vague, and it's never been a fantasy to me, just something       I aspire to because I Love Music and would rather make a living doing       something I Love than doing what I can't stand, like driving for example.              > I went to a gun show today with my brother. Not to buy anything, I just go       > because he enjoys company. One of the dealers there is a friend of my       > brothers. We were talking and it turns out this guy was also a musician       > back in the day. Same age as me. His group did a few records then broke       > up. He said drugs were the reason. Said their singer went nuts over all       > the dope he suddenly had easy access too.              Like I said before, that's a matter of Stupidity and Immaturity...which can       happen in ANY endeavor because it's the Idiot people who are the problem,       NOT the field they're in!              > He totally understood where that would have lead. Huh.              What I don't understand is this INSANE 'monkey-see-monkey-do'       'jump-in-the-lake-because-everyone-else-is-doing-it' so-called 'mentality'       that says that if someone else decides to be a FOOL, then *you* *have* to be       one too!!!       Just because drugs become more affordable and therefore accessible because       of getting the kind of money to enable that, doesn't mean that one *has to*       go nuts and wreck, or even lose their life with them!!!       And just because some sleazy whore 'groupie' spreads their legs doesn't mean       that one *has to* oblige!!!              To me, going along with such Crap is nothing but a cheap Cop-Out, a way to       Pretend to 'justify' Irresponsibility!!!              > He was happy about one thing tho. Seems some record outfit in calif       > recently ran across one of his old records and BOUGHT - $$$ - two of his       > tunes. Showed me the contract in his phone. He was proud. Sold his first       > tune at age 62 :-)              I don't think 'waiting' until age 62 was his idea...any more than my       'waiting' until my 60s to get somewhere with my Music was my idea!!!       You have to do your Best in a Miserable world that Totally SUCKS!!!       And that can take time, often a Lot of time!              > you do seem rather impervious to learning thru the shared experiences of       > others. have to make your own mistakes, it seems. that's a hard way to       > live.              For me, since day one, it's been the Only way to live!       And while it's indeed hard, any other alternative would be far more       difficult if not impossible, and therefore ineffective!       I can only learn so much, which really isn't all that much, from hearing       what others have to say...and that's because one size Never fits all, and if       I Really want to know how it'll be for my own unique, individual self, than       I've Personally got find out first hand, despite the risks. It's always been       like that for me, being effectively an alien in an alien world.              > Some of those original drivers quit at some point. Art did. Same with that       > other guy he was always competing against, the Spirit of America guy.       > They both seemed to eventually realize that if they just kept pushing,       > they'd end up as little pieces of red scattered across the salt flats              That's when you have to question WHY you're doing it, and taking the risks,       and if it's worth it, then continue, but if not, then quit.       Doing drugs, or for that matter, ANY other activity, is no different!              > reality is knowing there are limits. and using your brain requires seeing       > where those are .              Limits are much more often than not, only temporary.              > so, just as a curiousity, is there any limit you put on risk ?              A very simple limit, and that's the question of whether the risk is worth it       or not...just like spending filthy lucre - if the price is worth it, then       buy it, if it's not, then don't.              > Would you jump off a tall building just because to realize the fall will       > kill you is something you chose not to believe ?              Of course not, because I learned that going splat is not a very smart thing       to do, and not because of what others have said either, but rather because       of my own personal experiences which demonstrated the laws of physics...in       this case, the one regarding inertia, mass in motion, or stopped i.e. the       state of the mass in regards to shall we say, positional change ;)       Perhaps you've heard it said that it's not the fall that kills, but rather       the sudden stop at the bottom ;)       Well, it's not even the sudden stop so much as it is the inertia of the mass       falling i.e. the object's 'wanting' to continue to move downwards, as in the       case of a skydiver freefalling in the 'frog' position, face down and limbs       extended outward and slightly upward to limit terminal velocity to around       120 mph, and thus extend and prolong the freefall time before parachute       deployment becomes necessary. If the 'chute doesn't open, then the energy of       the downward motion, the tendency of the moving mass to continue moving       (inertia) is resisted by the mass of the ground, the object at rest and       tending to remain at rest, usually so poorly absorbing the energy of the       falling object that most of it is Reflected, i.e. absorbed by the falling       object itself , with major, usually fatal levels of force severely damaging       and even destroying it internally and externally, better known simply as       Splat! ;)              > gotta run. our drummer just sent a link to some Adele tune he wants us to       > learn. Got to head that off, nip it in the bud, kill it before it spreads       > ......              jim              An Adele tune? Which one?              Ouisie              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
