I must have heard it       before Adele covered it, which is why the progression seemed so familiar to       me.       And when a good song is played for those who haven't heard it before, it's       like a breath of fresh air amid the Stale!              I know I'd much rather hear a good song that I've never heard before rather       than the same old, worn out, stale, Boring Crap played over and over again,       and again, and again ad infinitum ad nauseam!       It's NOT offensive to let an audience hear something new, to them, or better       yet Brand New and Totally Original, that's good, but rather it is to       constantly subject them to the same old Boring Crap!       That's the way it Used to be, when Music was Awesome, and a brand new song       was played for the first time on the radio, and we couldn't wait to hear it       again. Remember what a rush it was to hear it when it was new? And remember       how we couldn't wait to get or at least hear the album?       It's time to bring all that back and continue the Tradition, which is why I       write songs!              > Now, just hold yourself, before you say you don't belive that, that no one       > where we play will have ever heard of it .... maybe you doubt that, but I       > don't. Not one person at anywhere we play will have. I doubt any of them       > would have ever heard of Adele period. It's a demographics thing. We       > don't have a lot of 13 year old girls at our gigs :-)              Then don't say it's an Adele tune, say it's a Dylan tune...or haven't they       ever heard of Bob Dylan either?       And don't say the "N" word either, in this case that "N" word is New!              > As a sort of related thing, we did " It's all about the bass " some last       > year. I found two places where they knew the song. One, when I did a       > guest instructor thing at a local grade school. The other was one time at       > one of our tourist spot gigs, when there was a woman there with some 9 -       > ish year old kids.              I guess they've never heard of something called the radio ;)              > At our typical dances or solo gigs, there's slim to no chance the Adele       > cover of the Dyan song will go over.              Then don't say that it's an Adele cover, just say that it's a Dylan cover,       and do it like Adele's cover - since they've never heard of her, it       shouldn't bother them ;)              > And here's the thing. Out in the market place, it's decisions like this,       > deciding whether or not to waste time working this song up and rehearsing       > it that will determine whether we stay in business.              That's TRAGIC! ONE SONG, and a nice one at that, and having to worry about       staying in business over working on it.       Some 'business' to have such a severely Limited BUDGET...or is the real       limit in the area of Confidence!!!       Quite often when a business wants to increase, they Diversify! Ever consider       that?              > Time spent on songs no one WHERE WE WORK will like, is time wasted. Waste       > enough time and you'll go out of business.              Then remove the Restrictions that Limit where you work...unless of course,       you're not interested in doing that because you don't particularly like the       other kinds of material.              > Or, learn enough songs no one where we work cares for, and again, they       > will stop hiring us. And all to placate our drummers niece, who never       > has, and never will be in the audience at any of our gigs.                     > Oh well.                     Jim              Are you sure you aren't making more out of this Single Instance than it       really is?              Ouisie              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
