The tradition of writing brand new material is why there's Music in the
first place...someone has to do it, but think Everyone should get into it!!!

   > but if I were to try, I'd point out that we aren't hired to " surprise "
   > anyone. We're hired to make the customers happy so they will stay and buy
   > drinks.

Then ask yourself the question; "What would be so terrible about well
written good brand new Original material that's somehow not a problem for
the same old worn out stale material?"

   > Ok, in our band there are three people Drummer, who's niece suggested the

Possibly the one's who aren't into Adele material? ;)

   > Sorry I didn't know it wasn't really an Adele tune. All I got was a
   > youtube link, which I managed about a minute of before shuting it off and
   > starting to formulate in my mind how to tell the drummer that song is crap
   > ... as a possible fit in our setlist.

You shouldn't have to play it if you don't like it.

   > radio ... yeah, I remember those. As I've said recently, I think there's
   > maybe a chance there is one around here that might still work. Maybe. We
   > use to have a BOSE radio, but gave it away years ago. There is a radio in
   > my van, but I've never turned it on.

Well, if you don't listen to the radio at all, you're obviously not going to
hear what's playing on it, which is not necessarily a bad thing,
particularly if you don't mind not knowing the material that 's out there,
most of which is pure crap to be sure, but not totally all of it.

   > How do I listen to music, you might ask. Well, I have hundreds of old
   > records that years ago were converted to digital and stored in various
   > computers and ipads and phones and mp3 players.

Yeah, that's the best way to listen to what you want to hear, and no Stupid,
   Obnoxious, Annoying commercials either!

   > New music ? I might see one now and then on the net, if I look it up.

That's usually what I do, so I can go right to it.

   > Band girl has something ridiculous like 5 thousand old LP's converted and
   > stored in her iPhone.

I'm guessing thatt takes something like 20GB

   > And I've never heard of them either :-) So what difference does it make.

It shouldn't mean any difference, but if they make a fuss, you can tell them
it's a Dylan tune - everyone's heard of Bob Dylan...the guy who talks more
than sings ;) Oh wait, he's only one, there's at least one other, Mark
   Knopfler ;)

   > Diversify ? Nope. Specialize .. that's the recipe for success in our
   > economy.

   Specialize on Originals!

   > Time. Time is the limited resource.

Time is relative, which means the truly limited resource is the resolve to
   use time wisely!

   > Nope. It'll be a learning moment. We had band rehearsal today. Before
   > all were here, band girl talked about that song, about how long she'd have
   > to listen to it to even begin to know how to sing it well. Estimate, 4
   > hours. Her estimate, not mine. It's not what we do. Not our style at
   > all.

Adele has an amazing voice, very unique, and I find myself studying her
style for when I cover her tunes.

   > Hey, to grasp this think about you having to give a speech somewhere. A
   > short thing, like maybe 15 minutes. One catch, you have to speak in
   > Klingon.

And there are no Klingons around to teach it ;)

   > Rehearsal went well. Been a long day tho. Gonna do some reading.

   Jim

So did you go over the Adele tune or does the rehearsal going well mean that
   you didn't? ;)
