Said the       > reason was that with a real band, you have 4 or 5 people up there and when       > they get going there is an interaction, a special magic that happens. Oh,       > and he said a lot of bands are hard to dance too, play songs too fast.              That interaction between REAL, LIVE musicians is what generates the Love       Vibe - That's the 'special magic'!       No wonder he prefers it!              And did he say HOW the midi was being used?              > The guy didn't like " midi " because, I guess, somehow holding the tempo       > even is sucking all the magic out of the music.              I'd say that it's the absence of variables that make it so mechanical, and       robotic.              > Oh, and this guy plays accordian, but not out, at least that he mentioned.              > It figures he's an amature musician.              All that really means is that he plays for the sheer joy of playing - what       we should all be doing!              > I haven't seen this midi hatred thing up close and in the real world       > before. Sure, the occasional intenet crank won't like it, but this is a       > first. No, wait, it isn't. I've seen this a lot, just not recently. Years       > ago I was in a club, a music organization, mostly all musicians ... there       > were some guys in that who hated midi, or anything even remotely looking       > like modern gear.              Depends on what "modern" implies.       As for myself, I use midi for only one thing - to enable a controller       keyboard to trigger a sound module or other midi capable keyboard in real       time. Apart from that, I really don't have any need for it.              > It was an interesting chat. I'll enjoy telling band girl about it       > tomorrow :-)              Jim              I'd still like to hear what he doesn't like about midi.              Ouisie              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
