I don't care ( much ).              I do no such thing, and never have. I intend to keep my voice, and my       hearing. I'm very careful about working the mic and letting the amps do the       work where power is concerned, and I'm not a screamer either.              > For us, since we have to sing as our " day " job, taking care of our vocal       > chords is just the sensible thing to do. So no songs that are way out of       > our ranges.              I pick covers that are in my range, and I write tunes to be in my range, and       if I sometimes have to 'stretch', up or down, whether for a cover or an       Original, I work on it until I can. If someone suggests a song and I can't       'stretch' far enough, I'll 'shelve' it until I can...but then that's a       lifelong attitude necessary for my survival starting on day one, I even       wrote a song about it on the Ignite The Sky album:              10. All Right (I Will)              verse1       I'll see how this works this way       but I don't know if I'll try it out today       yes I will and I hope I'll Love it more tonight       'cause I've finally got it set and I want to think it's              all right       all right       all right       all right              verse2       that's the way it's always been       needin' every effort gettin' out or gettin' in       but I will no matter how intensely fierce the fight       'cause there's no second place and I wanna make it              all right       all right       all right       all right              bridge1       plowing out the path of another day       'til it's finally enough to go ahead       wishing for a pleasant and better way       enduring constant hardship instead              where others are fearing to tread              (instrumental)              bridge2       forging ever onward at every chance       no matter what the risk or the cost       in spite of all the feelings of hesitance       at every new bridge to be crossed              still yet another chance to be lost              verse3       so be it if that's my lot for now       but it doesn't have to stay when I discover how       and I will 'cause it's time for heavy hearts to be light       to be rid of all the pain and finally come to know it's              all right       all right       all right              all right       all right       all right       all right              > I know a lady who had vocal node surgery. So, no songs in keys where we       > can't sing them. Or screaming over a loud band. Or anything else that       > might permanently damage the voice.                     Jim              Both Adele and Elton John had vocal fold surgery for the same kind of       problem...it comes from not listening to one's body, the same way some       people have heart attacks, even fatal ones, while shoveling snow.       Make it a point not to over-do it and things will be fine, and that       includes bringing the point of vocal focus out of the throat, away from the       vocal folds, into the mouth just behind the front teeth, that way dangerous       vibration patterns of the vocal folds, the kind that causes them to scuff       each other, resulting in nodes over time, can be avoided.              Overcranking the voice is a lot like overcranking amps - the latter destroys       the hearing, and the former destroys the voice.              Ouisie              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
