To quote Tom Petty, todays country is " bad rock with fiddles "              Too much calling lame so-called 'rock' 'country', but then I could never       figure how Johnny Cash, who was clearly country, 'rock & roll' either ;)              > Hey, talked to my bud that went to see the Band Perry yesterday. He was       > struggling to remember the Petty quote. Thought that was almost exactly       > what he saw. Except he said yesterday was bad rock with a mandolin :-)              Rock & rollers Black Oak Arkansas used a washboard...and the Eagles used a       banjo and pedal steel...but The Hollies used a banjo too, and Elton John's       band used a pedal steel ;)              > Styles change.              Just so long as it's a change for the Better!              > What in, eventually isn't any more.              If it's Awesome, it's Always 'in' and if it SUCKS, then it's 'in' the       Toilet, or at least should be!              > And artists die.              And it's time for new ones to step to take their places and keep the       tradition of great Music going...that's what I endeavor to do!              > There's no reason to expect music to stay any particular way. I'm ok with       > that.              I Expect it to stay Awesome...and if it's not, than I don't stay and waste       my time with it!              > The problem I have is in the labeling. If this current crop of       > musicians want to play their stuff, fine. Just not sure why they can't       > come up with an honest label for it ?              There's very little Honest Music around nowadays, it's Phony, Meaningless,       and Dumbed-Down, and that's the reason, and the Problem...and my label for       it is Honest, it's Honestly CRAP!              > Her and I worked on songs today. We have a particular band gig coming up       > soon that we're working on a setlist for. We'll be getting together with       > drummer on friday to try and pin things down to 40 tunes for that job.              That's what my Soulmate and myself are working on, new material for the band       we're currently part of, to replace their Worn-Out Stale and Boring material       I hope I'll never have to hear again, much less play!              > We went over one new, current, " country " chick tune, and 5 classics.              I'm going to try to get more 'chick tunes' into our setlist ;)              > Spent the last few days learning about ABBA. I've never given them even       > half a serious look, so this is kinda interesting, kinda fun.              I like ABBA, got a boxed set collection of theirs. I wouldn't mind doing       some of the tunes...particularly my favorite, "Cassandra". It has such a       powerful message that applies to this very day, particularly to this very       country. It's a kind of protest song, profoundly prophetic, sad, and scary,       but an Awesome tune:              Cassandra              ABBA              Down in the street they're all singing and shouting       Staying alive though the city is dead       Hiding their shame behind hollow laughter       While you are crying alone on your bed              Pity Cassandra that no one believed you       But then again you were lost from the start       Now we must suffer and sell our secrets       Bargain, playing smart, aching in my heart              Sorry Cassandra I misunderstood       Now the last day is dawning       Some of us wanted but none of us would       Listen to words of warning       But on the darkest of nights       Nobody knew how to fight       And we were caught in our sleep              Sorry Cassandra I didn't believe       You really had the power       I only saw it as dreams you would weave       Until the final hour              So in the morning your ship will be sailing       Now that your father and sister are gone       There is no reason for you to linger       You're grieving deeply but still moving on       You know the future is casting a shadow       No one else sees it but you know your fate       Packing your bags, being slow and thorough       Knowing, though you're late, that ship is sure to wait              Sorry Cassandra I misunderstood       Now the last day is dawning       Some of us wanted but none of us would       Listen to words of warning       But on the darkest of nights       Nobody knew how to fight       And we were caught in our sleep              Sorry Cassandra I didn't believe       You really had the power       I only saw it as dreams you would weave       Until the final hour              I watched the ship leaving harbor at sunrise       Sails almost slack in the cool morning rain       She stood on deck, just a tiny figure       Rigid and restrained, blue eyes filled with pain              Sorry Cassandra I misunderstood       Now the last day is dawning       Some of us wanted but none of us would       Listen to words of warning       But on the darkest of nights       Nobody knew how to fight       And we were caught in our sleep              Sorry Cassandra I didn't believe       You really had the power       I only saw it as dreams you would weave       Until the final hour              > They were just never on my radar. I'd rather listen to that than any of       > the whinny chick songs currently on the radio. At least those 2 chicks       > could dance :-)              Still too many stereotypes ;) They're good singers though.              > it's all about the $$$              It'll Always bee about the Vibe for me!!!              > Caring about the audience is important too.              Do Originals and the audience will care about you instead of expecting you       to be some kind of live jukebox!              > I did one, the Jeniffer Nettles tune. Oh, wait, he didn't pick that one,       > I did :-)              Not currently familiar with any of her material.              > I hate it that people will pay us to sing those songs too. Ok, not really       > :-)              What songs? Originals, copies, or ones that take more work to play and sing       them?              > did you ever record that at all ? I'd like to hear how it turned out.              I've only got the 4 track demo of "Ignite The Sky".              > No spare time this week. Playing too much. it's a blessing, and a curse       > :-)              Jim              That's a bizarre view of it ;)              Ouisie              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
