Playing with their phones ?              That won't help at all!              > I had a 72 tele back in 1972. What they make now, are they the same ?              They weren't using CNC in '72, so they're definitely not the same assembly       wise.              > jobs happen when they happen. who happens to be available on any given       > date varies. so our band lineup varies job to job.              Sounds like there are no plans there, quite a contrast with being booked a       year in the future ;)              > where my dad lives, they have a homestead exemption ... old geezers don't       > pay property taxes, or pay a reduced rate. we were talking about that       > just yesterday. suspect the same here, think it kicks in at 65. woo hoo       > ....... just a few years then maybe they'll quit picking my pocket.              That's Discrimination, and it's Wrong too!!!              > tools are necessary .. maybe not used every day, but still necessary when       > they are needed.              Definitely, which is why I prefer to keep things ;)              > great. exercise is always good.              I HATE exercise, it's sooooo BORING and TIRING - *unless* it happens in the       course of doing something else, like a pleasant ride going from point A to       point B, paying more attention to the scenery and other things rather than       the fact that I'm working my muscles...then it's fun ;)              > I originally built the Nashiki as a fixie, direct chain link to rear       > wheel, no freewheeling possible. That's why it only has one brake, the       > front caliper. Law here is you have to have at least one brake. No point       > in a rear wheel brake ..... use your legs. And here's the problem. If       > you try to lock your legs up to stop a fixie, it might just as well throw       > you over the handlebars. Or break your leg. The reason is, on pavement,       > with good traction, the bike won't just stop .... inertia kicks in, the       > forward momentum of the bike ..... it'll hurt you if the rear wheel       > doesn't lose traction and slide. We learned that real quick. These       > wheels are made with a solid gear on one side of the hub, and a single       > gear with freewheel mechanism on the other side. Both the same size,       > number of teeth. To switch the bikes mode, just remove the rear wheel,       > reverse it so the other gear is on the chain side.              I'm not sure I understand. You try to lock the rear wheel to stop? That       should just cause it to slide, and hopefully as soon as that happens, you'll       ease up to let it roll once again before you wipe out, which is why one       would think that you'd just apply resistance pressure to the crank rather       than trying to lock the wheel.              My great old Superia mixte frame 27" wheel 10 speed bike's Awesomely       Powerful Mafac Racer center pull caliper brakes always stopped me when I       needed to stop and the rear brake, whose Unshielded cable pulled straight       through between the mixte frame's split upper section, and totally and       Equally on each side, AROUND the seat post, could easily skid the rear       wheel on ANY kind of surface, but whenever I did, and as soon as I felt the       skid beginning, I'd immediately ease up on the rear brake so I wouldn't lose       control, and so I never did.              > it's a race bike. race bikes are like that. I have other bikes for other       > things.              Sure, if you run it on a prepared track, but on an unprepared public road,       that's another story.              > some sort of hi tech polymer ???              Yes, with the foam like multicellular substance occupying the space where       only air used to on old fashioned tires.              > they are different, and kinda fun                     Jim              I rode 'bents before, and they're a LOT of fun, which is why I want one!              Ouisie              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
