From: someone@anywheret.net              "JimD" wrote in message news:201707111128402303-email@nowherecom...              > need to add one little tidbit ..              > when a record producer says he wants something new and original, what he       > really means is to play something as close as you can get to sounding like       > whatever is hot right then ... without getting them sued :-)              I specialize in such songwriting...but my approach is NOT to get anywhere       near to sounding *like* someone else's material, but rather to write so as       to evoke the same kind or very similar Vibe!       I can use factors like the length of the song, number of chords, and tempo,       and yet come up with a song that's entirely different yet evokes the same       kind of or similar Vibes.              On the first album, Opening A Channel, track 1. Mirrorworld, although       entirely different, nonetheless bears a relationship to Grace Slick's       Jefferson Airplane tune White Rabbit, particularly because I wrote it to be       a sequel of sorts, picking up from Alice's Adventures In Wonderland, and       going into Through The Looking-Glass, hence the name Mirrorworld.              Then on track 11. However Long It Takes, on the same album, is an 'answer'       of sorts to my favorite Adele tune, "I'll Be Waiting", also with similar       time length and chords, yet totally different but related nonetheless, even       to the combining of Adels's title to it as "I'll Be Waiting However Long It       Takes" ;)              > When something is in style, they want to make more of it. Play like what       > sells, and so on and so on.              But ONLY IF one Knows WHAT it is that's selling!              > Or at least that is how it was explained to me by more than one record       > company dude.                     Jim              That is where Innovative Creativity comes in and there's NOTHING that can       replace it!!!              Ouisie              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
