Then the sooner in getting into 'the business', the better!!!

   > This is complicated stuff ,,, not ! Once you are really doing this for a
   > living, you have to pay the bills.

It's not complicated to me at all, but rather quite simple.
Like I explained to my Soulmate, acknowledge that the road you're on with
your 'day job', and even the CopyCat road goes NOWHERE.
But don't simply just up and quit, rather think of that road that goes
Nowhere as being not a road, but a RUNWAY!!!
Recognize that the Runway will RUN OUT after a certain amount of distance,
so Prepare and Resolve to TAKE OFF and be FLYING before it does!!!

On the Ignite The Sky album, the second verse of the 3rd track, "Serenely",
   says it all:

moving slowly at first but picking up speed
with every fiber aspiring to succeed
on a takeoff run at the sky
   and *thoroughly committed to fly*

pursuing our course as we get underway
getting closer with each passing day
the goal ever clearer in sight
to arrive the greatest joy of the flight

   > And spending time recording songs you won't get any writers or publishing
   > percentages from starts to look stupid. That's why you don't see the big
   > kids doing covers. It's all about the money.

It's about if you're SERIOUS enough about your BUSINESS to actually Care,
and Dare to SELL ***YOUR OWN PRODUCTS*** instead of Someone Else's!!!

   > Yes, at some point they accept that it's about the money, and there's no
   > money in major acts recording covers they don't own the rights to.

I couldn't care less about the Filthy Lucre, because I don't Love it...I'm
Not into the Root of ALL EVIL!!! What I do LOVE is making The Difference
and Restoring my favorite kind of Music, rock & roll to Rightful status it
had in the late '60s to early '70s, where Innovation and Creativity was the
order of the day...and the Music was Awesome!
So it will be once again if I have my way, and since I KNOW that the money
will follow, I won't have to worry about it.
And I am planning on making money, lots of it - I want to make millions so I
can GIVE IT AWAY as I believe in a Gift Economy!

   > It sounded to me like that was exactly the point. To use another airplane
   > metaphore, consider that as ... if you were an aviation pioneer, and
   > you're gonna fly some new, never done before flight, say crossing the
   > Atlantic. Ok, you have to build your own plane. Ah, but the rule is, you
   > can't test it. You can't take it out and try short flights.

Why not? That would be tantamount to going in Blind instead of with eyes
   wide open!

   > And you can't talk to other people who've built airplanes to see what
   > works ... lest you lose your creativity, or somehow succumb to being a
   > filthy copy cat.

   You're exaggerating, and inaccurately too.

   > You gotta built your plane, from scratch on your own, without testing it
   > on short flights ... then load it up and try crossing the Altantic on it
   > ... first flight ... evertthing has to be perfect the first time out,
   > because you bet your life ( career ) on it.

How can that be an accurate analogy/comparison?

   > Yes, it doesn't apply to everyone. It doesn't apply to anyone who wants to
   > be more than a flash in the pan. I say that because to last any time in
   > the business you need to know a LOT about music, and you need a LOT of
   > people who can support you, other players, writers, etc. How do you get
   > those networks in place if you don't work out in public.

But most of all, you got to have a PRODUCT that's in DEMAND!!!

   > As I said, there is a way. Start wealthy.

Yeah, how I was thrown into this miserable existence really SUCKS - I WANT A
DO-OVER, THE RIGHT WAY THIS TIME!!!

   > And really, that's the point the article makes. You have to not need any
   > money. You need to be able to spend all your time writing your creative
   > new hit.

   THEN DO IT DAMN IT!!!

   Enough Lame Excuses Already!!!

There are these two Major TOOLS that can be used to MAKE it happen -
   MATURITY and DISCIPLINE!!!

Simply Decide what's Truly Important, and what Truly Isn't, PROCEED
ACCORDINGLY, STAY ON COURSE, and DON'T GIVE UP!!!

I'm still among the living right now because that's what I HAD TO DO TO
SURVIVE...and IT WORKS, I'm literally living Proof!

   > It's tricky to get a whole band ( group ) of people together to do that.

Yes it is, because most people aren't serious, about ANYthing! What a
   Tragedy.

   > Even normal businesses need start up funding. Real people won't work for
   > free for long.

Particularly if they're Lacking in the Most Important Factor of All -
   FAITH!!!

   > In business they find venture capital. In music, the record companies use
   > to give the band an advance, essentually enough money to live on for a few
   > months so they could record their album. Now the record companies don't
   > want to do that. They ( that article ) want you to work two jobs and fund
   > yourself. Then it a

   > phone rings ... more later ..

I take an Independence minded view - work out those details yourself with
Determination, Commitment, Maturity, and Discipline, and YOU, not some
company will be in charge of what you do!
Advances from record companies are nothing more than LOANS anyway, then they
   get to OWN you!
