But at least not everyone is for moneygrubbing, and that's always refreshing
   to see.

   > yep, that was probably the one. it highlights the different focus, one on
   > being an artist, the other one being an entertainer

One entertains babies to keep them quiet and occupied...such as by putting
them in one of those wind up swings and winding it up, which keeps them
   entertained ;)

But when those babies get older, they should Grow and Mature into preferring
more than that, such as going to a concert to be Moved by the performance
   rather than merely entertained!
In other words, Distractions are cheap, but genuine Substance requires
   Skillful Performing Artists!

   > that's not a site I hang on ... maybe give it a look.

I think you'll find it interesting.
Tom Hendrix is very opinionated and I always find it refreshing to find
someone like that because it means they actually think, and believe, and are
convicted, rather than Aimless, Mindless Zombies.

I've always been in bands for the Vibe that comes with interacting - only
problem ever since getting into my first band at age 16 has been Immaturity
and all the Bad vibes that go with it, until I got together with my
Soulmate, because whether the two of us are playing with a band, or as a
   duo, the Vibe is Awesome!!!

   > I worked with this particular dummer, and loud would be what I'd expect.

In other words, he needs to work on his VOLUME DYNAMICS, because he'll Never
be a genuinely Skilled drummer until he Learns to do that!!!

   > I read the same thing about IEM's. The best way is to wear them in both
   > ears. If you use just one, it'll take a lot more volume in that ear to
   > hear well.

Yes, it is best to regard Both of your ears as your Complete hearing system
and Always treat both of them equally.

   > The reason I don't use amps anymore is that * I * don't want the volume.

That's where Maturity comes in. I have no problem controlling my own amp,
but if there's too much cranking up, I'll only crank up a little, and beyond
that point, instead of cranking further, I'll point my amp at myself and use
it like a monitor so I can hear myself without harming my hearing - and if
that means that no one else will be able to hear me, that's THEIR PROBLEM -
TURN DOWN THE OVERCRANKING to FIX that!!!!!

   > It's not so about what the audience hears. It's that I just can't take
   > loud amps right in my ears.

If the audience can't hear me, it's ONLY because some IDIOTS have been
overcranking again, and since my Objective is to hear myself, NOT make
myself Deaf, it's up to those IDIOTS to CRANK BACK DOWN...*if* THEY Want the
   audience to hear me!

   > We can mic an amp, but if I still have to crank it to unbearable ( to me )
   > levels right by my head to get over the rest of the stage level, then
   > what's the point of it all.

That's precisely why I'd resort to using an amp as a monitor, only to hear
   myself!

   > It's a throwback. Still, I am glad to have the gig. It'll be fun, one way
   > or another.

   What's getting thrown back? ;)
