Two friends called and       > talked. In each case their current band projects are falling apart.              If bands had a genuinely Honest Reason for getting together, they wouldn't       fall apart - but with all the ego problems, it's usually guaranteed...been       there far too many times as I'm sure you have too, along with practically       everyone else who's ever sought to get somewhere in Music...which is why       it's so Awesome to get together with a Soulmate - changes everything to       where it should be. A duo, sure, but we combine our duo to play with other       bands too...get several coming up...while working on our own sound.              Got my 2 tier keyboard stand - holds the piano and DX7 very nicely and       there's room on top of the piano for my effects pedals.       Got the Behringer TO800 tube overdrive pedal - sounds Great with the       clavinet and piano voices on the DX7 - very guitar-like, particularly when I       use the pitch bend wheel to simulate string bending.       Still waiting for the phase shifter and tremolo pedals, along with their       power source and cables...it'll be Awesome when they finally come in.              > Bands aren't worth the bother. Not sure they ever were, but they aren't       > now.              If the Vibe is there, it's great, otherwise, it'll probably end up a       disaster.              That's precisely why I'm setting up my sound to be as big and rich and full       as I can get, even though we're a duo.       I've found that just playing the two keyboards simultaneously makes for a       Much bigger sound, and switching the overdrive in and out gives an even       greater impression of a bigger sound!              > Ok, think about that. In the past, when I was a kid, if I wanted to play       > music out, I needed a band. A drummer, a bassist, someone to scream the       > words to Mony Mony ... etc. That's what there was in the 60's / 70's,       > that's how it was.              Then there was always the 'power' trio - 25 percent less musicians than a 4       piece, but even less the hassle of trying to deal with egomaniacal prima       donna 'rockstars'...usually ;)       That's how I got into my first trio - it was my second band ever and we       became a trio when ego problems prevented us from having a 4 piece       band...sort of a necessity being the mother of invention situation.              > Earlier, in the 40's and 50's, bands had rows of horn players and did Glen       > Miller songs.              Like Mark Knopfler's lyrics put it: "They don't give a damn about any       trumpet playing band, it ain't what they call rock and roll" ;)              > Us kids of the late 60's were rock and roll. Or in my case, as bar room       > country as could be.              Yeah, it's a bummer! And even worse, it continues to this day!              > Now, what's left ? We're old. The Glen Miller types are dead. Who's       > gonna play live music now ?              WRITE BRAND NEW ORIGINAL ***FRESH*** MUSIC ***FIRST*** - then play it!!!              > I say, no one.              I say The Difference!!!              Do you know anyone who has no problem with or even actually prefers to eat       OLD, STALE food???       So WHY should anyone have to put up with listening to OLD, STALE SONGS???              > I'm seeing all around me the last of the " musicians " are working less       > and less, or going solo.              And BORING is the reason!       I should know. I get BORED to death playing them!!!       How many more !@#$%^&*()ing times does anyone want to hear "Hotel       California", or "Brown Eyed Girl", or "Stand By Me", etc., ad infinitum ad       nauseam?              > The new musicians, well, show me some ?              It's the New Material that matters, and we've got 40 of the tunes so far,       with more to come!              > I wouldn't learn guitar now, if I were starting over. Or drums. I might       > play a keyboard. Fiddle, not a chance that the effort that takes is worth       > it now.              Of course it's worth it! You enjoy it don't you?       How can you say that? Didn't the guitar 'speak' to you with a powerful Vibe       that let you know it was for you?       That's what keys did with me!              > The tools have changed.              So what? You'll still use ONLY the ones that are RIGHT FOR YOU...changed or       not!              The times have changed.              But UNLESS they've changed for the BETTER, you're NOT Required to go along       with it!!!              > Listen to the latest Taylor Swift tune and try to imagine some 4 or 5       > piece rock band playing that.              Why would ANYone want to play such CRAP?              Okay, I do cover ONE Taylor Swift song - "I Knew You Were Trouble", but       that's it - and I've rearranged it for piano.              Like the rest of the DUMBED-DOWN ROBOTS, Taylor's tunes are Limited to 3 or       4 chords, while for example, the Fresh, Original protest song "Taking It       Back", from the first album, Opening A Channel, goes through 5 chords in       two lines of verse lyrics...in other words, it's Interesting, Not Boring,       and Not Dumbed Down!              > Not gonna happen. If she tours, it'll be synths and maybe some people       > pretending to play as a way to fill the back of the stage, that       > unimportant area the dancers aren't using.              The descriptions for it are PHONY, PLASTIC, INSINCERE, UNREAL, DISHONEST, to       name just a few!              > Yep, a long day of hearing why this band band or that isn't working out.       > It's the same ol' story. Egos and lack of even basic sense of what needs       > done.              That's always the most serious problem.              > How's my band going ? Who knows. We're supposed to rehearse towards the       > end of the week. That should be fun. I'm thinking about, and working       > on, my solo gig stuff. Might as well put my effort where it'll do some       > good.              Jim              That's why I'm working on our sound for The Difference...being a duo with a       Soulmate is even better than solo...because we're not only on the same page,       we're on the same spot on the same page...so doing Music is totally       Awesome...I called synergistic dynamism...THE Absolute Number One       Prerequisite for ANY band!!!              Ouisie              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
