Are you saying that you're using a computer to make instrument SOUNDS, but
that you still have to make a MIDI connection to an instrument, like a
controller, to play them? If so then it's still an instrument, only it uses
computer circuits. Other instruments use non computerized circuits, but they
ultimately all do the same thing, make Music.

But what's wrong with 'old' as in Proven instrument sounds that have
   withstood the test of time?
I've heard so-called 'new' sounds and with very few exceptions, they sound
like Crap...just silly, novelty created for the purpose of just being weird,
rather than something that would become the next classic sound.

That's one of the main problems with the Yamaha DX7 - it only has some
sounds, relatively few, that are actually good enough to justify its
existence...the rest of them sound STUPID, just like the 1980s in which the
   synth was most used.
So it's a challenge for a hippie rock & roller to make good use of a synth
designed pretty much for the beginning of the Dumb-Down Zombie era.

   > well, yes. our " money " has no value in and of itself. it only has value

Why would ANYone be so Stupid, if not INSANE???
I agree that it has no value!

   That's awesome!

   > We move the song into whatever key results in the best sound when WE sing
   > it.

We do that at church all the time - I get LOTS of practice with transposing
on the spot...but what I mean is that when I'm going to be doing the
   singing, there'll be NO transposing!

   > I'm not the singer on some old record, so why should I sing in their key ?

   > song in some " original " key is something I'd ask .... why ? Hell, if
   > I've even been know to retune the instrument or use the transpose function
   > on my keyboards.

When it's transposed into another key, it just doesn't sound the same and
therefore have the same Vibe as the original - and as for wearing the same
kind of clothes as the artist, I wouldn't know about that unless I'd seen
the person, but I DO HEAR THE SOUND and That matters!

I like variety, and so do audiences, which is why I'm getting into effects
