The thing is, these guys actually don't have any       > clue how loud they are. And there is a simple reason for that. Partial       > deafness.              More like they don't Care how loud they are.       What they have no clue of is that they're STUPID for Damaging their own, and       others' hearing!              > The attitude is .. the pa is for vocals.              Talk about old, outdated ideas - that's definitely a big one.       I know, PA is for Public Address, implying using it with a mic for vocal       amplification...but that's taking it a bit too literally ;)              > Really. That's basically what I was told. Maybe so. They don't have a       > pa capable of anything but primitive monitor sends. One monitor send.       > Sad, but totally normal for the bar band scene.              Just more to carry.              > Moving to better sound requires better gear and discipline. Ha, I crack       > myself up sometimes thinking either of those is possible in that band ....              Jim              Interesting you'd mention that.       My Soulmate has a DJ gig coming up and he wanted me to stop by to check out       a few problems, and the biggest one is that his PA is not very versatile. It       has only one front mounted stereo input consisting of 2 RCA phono jacks with       what amounts to almost a trimmer level control for volume, in addition to       the master volume.              I suggested a new system. Guitar Center has a nice EIA standard rack with a       carrying handle for around 49 bucks that'll hold something like a Behringer       NU1000 iNUKE stereo amp that puts out 150W per channel into 8 ohms and even       more with lower values, i.e. 500W per channel into a 2 ohm load, and it       weighs a whopping 6.2 lbs whereas a tube equivalent would weigh at least 10       times that and no doubt the price would probably be around 10 times as much       too, because this thing is selling for 150 bucks;)       Then add to that a stereo i.e. dual 1/3rd octave band eq, and finally a       mixer and what a system...it'll work for DJing, for a band, and for a very       powerful home stereo.              Or the mic stand mountable 6.6 lb Behringer PMP500MP3 8 channel 250W per       channel stereo power mixer with MP3 player...for 200 bucks...it even comes       with capability, via USB receiver connection, for their 2.4 GHz wireless mic       system. Behringer sure makes some amazing stuff!              Ouisie              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
