Same cabs, different       > positioning.              So you're just pointing what you've been using for monitors differently?              > yeah, like it is just that easy.              If it's too loud, then it Must be turned down. Easier than going deaf!       I'd just make it clear that if the overcranking continues, I won't be       playing with them anymore.              > The new drivers came today. No time yet to install them. Maybe tomorrow.              That should be the easy part.              > That is the issue in a nutshell, lack of refined skills              In other words, LAZINESS!       And I don't care to hear ANY excuse for not refining one's musicianship       skills through Diligent Practice!              > You wear earplugs onstage ?              No, not yet, but I came pretty close and I did wear them at rehearsal...that       was some years ago though and as can be expected, the band never went       anywhere....that was the one with the drummer who was into sizzler cymbals.              > Interesting that you get bored. That's just what our drummer says when       > band girl talks about playing the drums as they were on the originals. He       > almost always replies that the original parts are boring.              There's a bit more to that.       I don't mind playing something *generally* like it's played on a recording,       and even *specifically* like the recording for a particular riff or       lick...but *ultimately*, I endeavor to play it like myself, that is,       self-manifesting, better known as psychedelic, because no matter how much       I'd want what I'm playing to sound *like* a recording, I still don't want it       to sound identical....even if it's a really good, even awesome passage, I       still want it to sound like I'm the one who's playing it, myself!       But that's not a problem because even the original band who made the       original recording plays the same piece a bit differently when performing       Live.              > You really don't have any idea why people use backing tracks, do you ?              I thought you were referring to click tracks but sure, I'm painfully aware       of what instrument, or vocal recordings, aka 'tracks' are used for...to Fake       the Illusion of there being more players than there really are.              > I guess. Why would I want the bassline played correctly when I could have       > a real live human play it wrong instead ?              Or you could have someone who's Practiced and Serious play it right instead!              > Because it's not about keeping an even tempo, it's about staying with the       > prerecorded parts. Or in big deal stage productions, it's about playing       > syncronized with the lights.              Sure, but what do lights have to do with Music.              > Good. You have principals. I wish everyone ( except us of course ) felt       > as strongly as you about working with tracks. I know of about 5 local acts       > that wouldn't exist then, and we could suck up their jobs ... because I'm       > not so principled.              I'm not interested in Phony jobs, or Phony audiences who don't care about       quality.              > you stick to that mindset. and convince all your friends to do the same.              I have no reason not to stick with it...because I'm sick of Plastic people,       Phonies, and Whores who Love Filthy Lucre even more than the Dignity they       could otherwise have if they gave that Garbage up!              > We did that this week. Finally finished a 10 song cd today. I'll have       > some copies tomorrow.              > Yep, drums are loud. Some people like loud. Mostly young, drunk people.       > Sadly, I work a lot in the daytime, and to totally sober audiences. Loud       > will get me fired.              Jim              I prefer daytime ;)              Ouisie              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
